When I feel “led” to do something, how do I know it’s God and not just my own wishful thinking or anxiety?

This is a wise question, because honest people ask it and only the overconfident skip it. A few tests that many traditions share: the Spirit’s leading tends to line up with the character of Scripture rather than contradict it, so a nudge toward cruelty, deceit, or self-destruction is worth distrusting no matter how strong it feels. Its fruit over time looks like love, patience, gentleness, and self-control — not urgency, fear, and pressure. Wise leadings usually survive counsel; sharing them with mature, trusted people is a safeguard, not a lack of faith. And peace that remains after honest examination is different from the buzz of an impulse. You will not get certainty every time, and that is normal. Discernment is a skill grown slowly in community, not a perfect signal you receive alone.
